Mobile Thinking Labs

  • Our newest addition to services are the Mobile Thinking Labs (MTLs) which began

MTLs are an enrichment classroom we bring to your campus! Our labs bring fun, engaging activities that promote rigorous thinking in creating advanced products and performances.

In the 2021-2022 school year, permission was given to purchase vans that could operate as a mobile classroom to bring enrichment to elementary school across the district.  Although the G/T Department leads, staffs, and equips these MTLs, these mobile classrooms are available for all students.  When visiting campuses, the MTL team creates a schedule to serve as many students as possible.  For example, these MTLs have visited all 81 elementary campuses to do high-level, open-ended activities with all kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms.  In addition, MTLs work with our G/T teachers to help provide services as well as create unique days of enrichment for other grade levels and students.

The ultimate goal is to create an experience for students with resources and activities that they do not normally have while still inspiring them to use critical and creative thinking to develop innovative products.  The MTLs have activities rooted in various critical thinking centered skills. For example, students may use the "SEE THINK WONDER" thinking routine to inspire creative thoughts.  Students may "SCAMPER" an idea to develop an innovative, new idea.  Also, students may use tools like a "RAFT" or "Critical Thinking Hats" to deeply dive into a topic.  All of these strategies and techniques are designed to equip our students to develop their thinking through metacognition.

We hope you enjoyed seeing our MTL and if you have any questions e-mail us at gt@fwisd.org
